Tyler Brooks

Tyler Brooks is an AI Software Developer at the Software Engineering Institute’s (SEI) AI Division.  He works with members of the United States Department of Defense to build, test, and evaluate autonomous, artificial intelligence, and machine learning systems. Tyler’s most recent work includes building computer vision (CV) and large language model (LLM) prototypes. Tyler is also actively building a workforce development curriculum that will be used to increase AI Engineering literacy for both government and private organizations.

Prior to the AI Division, Tyler spent over five years working in the SEI's CERT Division as a Cyber Security Engineer.  There, he deployed, managed, and secured dozens of virtual enterprise networks that were used to assist in the training and validation of Army NETCOM Regional Cyber Centers (RCCs) and Cyber Protection Teams (CPTs).  In addition to deploying and maintaining cloud infrastructure, Tyler actively researched or built custom malware and adversarial tactics that he used for Red Teaming exercises.

Tyler has a Bachelor and Master of Science in Information Science from the University of Pittsburgh.  In 2018, he helped pilot The University of Pittsburgh's Professional Institute at the School of Computing and Information. Since then, he has developed and taught undergraduate, graduate, and professional courses offered by University of Pittsburgh.  Tyler also helped found the SEI's Group Mentoring Program in 2021 and has been involved in leading or facilitating group mentoring sessions since its inception.
